WHAT MAKES OUR LADAKH JOURNEYS WITH TURTUK AND HANLE TRULY UNFORGETTABLE?

A remote rooftop realm of high passes, soul-stirring landscapes, and ancient cultures. Welcome to Ladakh — India’s Himalayan jewel.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN LADAKH, TURTUK, HANLE

START IN LEH, THE OLD KINGDOM’S CAPITAL, WHERE ANCIENT PALACES AND BUSTLING BAZAARS MEET ALPINE CALM. SHYOK RIVER TO TURTUK, A VILLAGE OF APRICOT ORCHARDS AND STONE HOMES JUST MILES FROM THE PAKISTAN BORDER. HERE LIES HANLE, ONE OF THE MOST REMOTE, SOUL-STILLING PLACES IN THE COUNTRY.

A LAND ABOVE

Ladakh isn’t just a destination — it’s an awakening.
Cradled between the Karakoram and the Himalayas, this high-altitude desert invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and be still. From the monasteries clinging to cliffs to the timeless rhythms of village life, Ladakh humbles and uplifts in equal measure.

This is the land of clear skies and clean hearts — of jagged mountains, glowing gompas, and starlit silence.

DISCOVER TURTUK

Tucked away in the Nubra Valley near the Line of Control with Pakistan, Turtuk is one of India’s northernmost villages—and one of its most intriguing. Once part of Baltistan, it only became accessible to Indian travelers in 2010. The village feels like a world apart, with its apricot orchards, stone houses, and narrow lanes framed by rugged mountains. Home to the Balti people, Turtuk offers a rare glimpse into a unique cultural and linguistic heritage shaped by Tibetan, Central Asian, and Islamic influences.

REMOTE HANLE

Hidden deep in southeastern Ladakh, Hanle is a stark, windswept hamlet in the Changthang region—remote even by Ladakhi standards. Set at over 14,700 feet, the landscape here is vast and silent, broken only by grazing kiangs and fluttering prayer flags. Hanle is best known for the Indian Astronomical Observatory, one of the world’s highest, where the night skies are some of the clearest on Earth.

The village itself is humble and tranquil, centered around a 17th-century gompa overlooking the valley. Monks in maroon robes, wide-open skies, and the sheer emptiness of the surrounding plateau give Hanle a meditative quality. Few travelers make it this far, which makes a visit here feel all the more special—intimate, untouched, and otherworldly.
